The University of Utah has created a new project to highlight the various research stations throughout the state, including the Telescope Array Project. The Utah Field Station Network (UFSN) is a program dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of the local research stations administered by Utah universities, as well as those run by state and federal agencies. The field stations that make up the network are used for diverse fields of research, from projects studying land use and the effects of climate on the environment, like the Canyonlands Research Center, to other physics and astronomy projects like the Willard Eccles Observatory.
The USFN helps to provide access to information about the research done at the various research stations throughout the state. It's goal is to promote education and public awareness about the socially and economically relevant scientific research being conducted in Utah.
Field research stations were also recently featured in a new book released by the University of Utah Global Change and Sustainability Center. Titled “Embedded in Nature: The University of Utah Field Stations,” the book gives a tour of the scholarly activities that take place at these field stations and how they contribute to a rich intellectual exchange between artists, scientists, and writers. The book explores the history and uses of the six stations associated with the University of Utah and is filled with photographs and maps to help illustrate the stories about each of the stations.
